From 19 to 21 May, the Academy of Music of the University of Zagreb organized the \u201cSummer Clarinet School\u201d, which, in addition to students and teachers from the Zagreb Academy of Music, was attended by students and a teacher from a partner institution of the Winds of Central Europe CEEPUS network: 1 professor and 4 students from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. The clarinet professor at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, Csaba Palfi, took four students from his class to the Summer Clarinet School in Zagreb: Szilvia Lambert, Kincs\u0151 Puklics, Domonkos T\u00f3th and Andr\u00e1s Sterner. These students had classes every day with one of the three clarinet professors from the Zagreb Academy of Music, Milko Pravdi\u0107, Davor Reba and Davorin Brozi\u0107.<\/p>\n

On the first day, on Monday May 19th<\/sup> 2025 they worked in the afternoon with Professor Reba and they presented works by Mozart, Weber and Brahms. On the same day, in the morning, Professor Palfi worked with students of the Zagreb Academy Marija Jure\u0161a, Paula Po\u017ear and Lucija Radi\u0107, who presented works by Tomasi, Debussy and Crusello. Professor Palfi’s classes were held in the Huml hall, so that professors and students of the Zagreb Academy could follow them in the auditorium.<\/p>\n

Student Roko Lovri\u0107 began the class with Professor Palfi on the second day, on Tuesday, followed by Jose Antonio Garcia, Jakov Jagodi\u0107 and Tihana Car. They presented works by Weber, Spohr, Debussy and Fran\u00e7aix. Later, Professor Brozi\u0107 held the class for students from Budapest. This time, the visiting students performed works by Mozart, Molter, Spohr and Bassi.<\/p>\n

On the third day of the summer school, Professor Pravdi\u0107 gave a lecture for visiting students entitled “Breathing and How It Affects Phrasing”. After that, they tried to apply the theory from the lecture to their playing practice. At the same time, in the Stan\u010di\u0107 Hall, Professor Palfi gave classes to Zagreb students. Andrija D\u017eaja, Ana Maria Klasan and Marta Burazer presented their exam program with works by Tomasi, Mozart and Spohr.<\/p>\n

During the three days of teaching, we went through the most important pieces of clarinet literature, both with ten Zagreb students and four visiting students. All professors at this summer school, when working with students, focused their attention on the production and shaping of tone and the tone color in relation to the content of the composition. There was also talk of interpretation based on historical and stylistic aspects, and the instructions often referred to the improvement of manual playing technique and the ability to analyze musical text. The clarinet summer school met all expectations because not only the students, but also the professors benefited from the exchange of experiences. Students who participated in the summer school received 2 ECTS points upon completion of the program.<\/p>\n
